Working cattle gives us an opportunity to find out how well our horsemanship really works when we introduce a little more purpose, movement and pressure. The Cattle Working Clinic - Hire Horse option is designed for horse-and-rider combinations that have a reasonable foundation resulting from one-on-one lessons with us and are ready to start applying those skills in a practical cattle-working environment. We'll work on things like positioning your horse, controlling movement, reading cattle, developing timing and feel, and learning how to influence the cow without simply chasing it around the arena. By the end of the day, you and your horse will be reading a cow together — not just reacting to one. This is a small clinic, with a maximum of five riders, because I want to be able to work closely with each combination and keep the environment safe and productive for both horses and riders. Because of that, riding positions are offered by application, not automatic booking. Spots are limited and they do fill quickly. You don't need to be an experienced cattle competitor, but you do need to have enough control of your horse to safely take the next step.
